Abstract

Arthritis Gout is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the consumption of red guava juice (Psidium Guajava Linn.) To decrease levels of uric acid in elderly patients with gout arthritis Technical Implementation Unit of Elderly Social Services Jember. This research uses design Quasi Experiment with pretest-posttest design with control group. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with total sample of 22 elderly patients with gout arthritis were divided into 2 groups: 11 respondents control group and 11 respondents treatment group. Bivariate analysis used was Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and Mann Whitney. Results were analyzed in the control group showed no difference in uric acid levels before and after treatment with p value= 0.964 (p value > 0.05) in the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. While the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test in the group treated showed a difference in uric acid levels before and after treatment with p value = 0. 003 (p value < 0.05). Results analyzed using Mann Whitney test showed differences in the levels of uric acid in the control group and the treatment group before treatment with p value = 0.000 (p value <0.05) and the results analyzed using the Mann Whitney test also showed there are differences in the levels of uric acid in the group control and treatment group after treatment with p value = 0.035 (p value <0.05).The conclusion of this study is to consume red guava juice can lower uric acid levels elderly patients with arthritis gout.
