Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the effect of adding the probiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae to duck feed on the blood profile of hybrid ducks. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a yeast widely used as a probiotic in animal feed due to its ability to improve feed efficiency, restore the balance of gut microbiota, and boost the immune system of livestock. This study was conducted at the Jember State Polytechnic using 20 hybrid ducks. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replicates; each treatment consisted of 1 hybrid ducks, resulting in a total of 20 ducks used. The feed treatments utilized the probiotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae at varying doses: P0 = control (no probiotic), P1 = feed + Saccharomyces cerevisiae 0.5 g/kg, P2 = feed + Saccharomyces cerevisiae 1 g/kg, P3 = feed + Saccharomyces cerevisiae 1.5 g/kg. The observed parameters were the blood profiles of the hybrid ducks, consisting of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, leukocytes, and hematocrit. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA); if the results showed a significant effect (P < 0.05), they were followed by a Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The conclusion of this study states that the addition of Saccharomyces cerevisiae probiotics to feed mixtures has not yet been shown to have a significant effect on the blood profile of hybrid ducks, but it can help maintain the stability of their blood profile and physiological condition.
