Abstract

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease occurred in 20% up to 50% of adult and becomes the main reason of death around the world. High level of fat and sodium consumption become the main factor of what causing the hypertension. One of alternative to treat hypertension is the consumption of potassium. Bamboo shoot is one of potassium resource, and Betung bamboo shot was a type of bamboo used in this study. Betoong bamboo shoot is a kind of vegetables contains 533 mg of potassium for 100 gram. This study was to find out the effect of giving Betung bamboo shoot to systolic and diastolic of white rats (Rattus Norvegicus) suffered from hypertension. True experimental was chosen as the method of the research, and the design was randomized pre and post-test control group design. This study used 15 male white rats, 2-3 months in age, with 150-200 gram in weight. The rats divided into three groups, namely positive control group, negative control group, and experimental group that was treated by a daily dose of 0.315 gram of Betoong bamboo shoot flour. The systolic and diastolic were measured by using spigmomanometer in tail cuff method. The data was analyzed by using paired ttest and one way anova, proceeded by Duncan test. Betung bamboo shoot flour significantly lowing the systolic (p = 0.002) and diastolic (p = 0.004).
