Abstract

The prevalence of wasting among toddlers is still relatively high and is one of the most important nutritional problems in Indonesia. Wasting toddlers can be caused by various factors, one of the indirect factors that cause it is household food security and maternal knowledge related to nutrition. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between food security and maternal knowledge with the incidence of wasting toddlers in the Puskesmas Cakru, Jember Regency. This study used an analytic approach method with a cross sectional study. The sampling technique was to use multistage random sampling method with predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. This research was conducted on February 1-7, 2024 in Kraton Village. The population of this study was 213 toddlers aged 12-36 months. This study involved 73 respondents. Data collection in this study using the method of measuring weight for height, interviews, filling out questionnaires of maternal knowledge and United States Household Food Security Survey Module questionnaires by respondents. Statistical analysis using SPSS 25.0 with univariate test and Chi-Square correlation test. The results of bivariate analysis of food security with the incidence of wasting showed (p-value = 0.000) and the results of bivariate analysis of maternal knowledge with the incidence of wasting showed (p-value = 0.000). The conclusion of the study is that there is a relationship between food security and the incidence of wasting toddlers based on the US-HFSSM questionnaire and indicators of weight for height measurement. There is a relationship between maternal knowledge related to nutrition with the incidence of wasting toddlers based on questionnaires and indicators of weight for height measurement.
