Abstract

College students are an age group that has very high activities. Due to the tight schedule of academic activities, college students prefer to consume snacks because they need something practical to support their daily activities. These snacks are high in energy and fat and if consumed in excess can interfere with macronutrient intake, potentially increasing the risk of overweight or obesity. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between frequency of consumption snacks with macronutrient intake and body mass index of college students. This type of research is analytic observational with a cross-sectional study design. The subject collection technique used multistage random sampling with a total of 81 college students as subjects. The research was conducted at two universities in Jember, with data collection carried out using the SQ-FFQ questionnaire and anthropometric measurements. The result of the spearman rho correlation test data analysis of the frequency of consumption snacks with macronutrient intake showed that protein (0,001) with a strong relationship strength (0,752), fat (p=0,001) with a strong relationship strength (0,767), and carbohydrates (p=0,001) with a strong relationship strength (0,785). The positive direction of correlation means that if there is an increase in the frequency of consumption of snacks, the intake of macronutrients will increase. The results of the chi-square test showed a p-value 0,192 > 0,05, which means there is no significant relationship between snack consumption frequency and body mass index.
