Abstract
Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women remains a significant nutritional problem in Indonesia, particularly in Bondowoso Regency, where its prevalence is higher than the national average. Sumbercanting Village, Wringin Subdistrict, experienced a substantial increase in CED cases, from 14 cases in 2024 to 20 cases in 2025. Therefore, an in-depth exploration is needed to understand how pregnant women perceive and experience this condition. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions of pregnant women with CED in Sumbercanting Village in terms of nutritional knowledge and understanding, physical condition, psychological and emotional aspects, socioeconomic circumstances, and health-related behavior, using the Health Belief Model (HBM) as the theoretical framework. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The findings showed that the participants’ understanding of pregnancy nutrition was generally adequate; however, it was not fully implemented because of economic, physical, and cultural barriers. The physical condition of pregnant women with CED was reflected in complaints such as nausea and weakness, as well as mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurements below the normal threshold.
