Abstract

This study was based on the importance of optimizing micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, to improve the internal quality of quail eggs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of selenium yeast supplementation in the diet on the internal egg quality of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). Selenium yeast was selected because of its high bioavailability, allowing it to be more readily absorbed and utilized by the body, while also supporting antioxidant activity in poultry. This study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and five replications. A total of 200 laying quails were randomly assigned to four treatment groups: P0 (control without selenium yeast), P1 (0.5 g/kg feed), P2 (1.0 g/kg feed), and P3 (1.5 g/kg feed). The observed parameters included albumen index, yolk index, egg pH, and yolk color score. The results showed that selenium yeast supplementation had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the albumen index and egg pH, but had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the yolk index and yolk color intensity. Treatment P2 (1.0 g/kg feed) produced the highest yolk color intensity, whereas the highest yolk index was observed in treatment P3 (1.5 g/kg feed). In conclusion, selenium yeast supplementation improved the internal quality of quail eggs, particularly in terms of yolk index and yolk color.
