Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of providing hydroponic fodder made from maize seeds on the performance of local sheep (Ovis aries). The study was conducted from July to December at the Agricultural Machinery Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology and the Academic Service Unit (UPA) of Jember State Polytechnic using 6 ram in two treatments, namely P0 (no treatment) and P1 (treatment), each with three replications. The parameters observed included feed consumption, daily body weight gain (PBBH) and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). Data were analyzed using the Independent T-test using SPSS 25.0 software. The results showed that the provision of hydroponic fodder had no significant effect (P>0.05) on daily body weight gain, FCR and feed consumption, but the P1 treatment numerically showed results that tended to be better than P0. The conclusion of this study is that hydroponic fodder has the potential to reduce sheep feed efficiency and can be recommended as an alternative forage in conditions of limited land or dry season.
