Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving areca nut (Arecha catechu L.) seed flour on the performance of KUB chickens. This study used a completely randomised design (CRD) experimental method, with 100 KUB chickens, 5 treatment groups and 4 replicates of each treatment consisting of 5 KUB chickens so that there were 20 experimental units. The treatments given were T0 (0%) control; T1 (0.25%); T2 (0.5%); T3 (0.75%); and T4 (1%). The treatment started at the age of 14 days until the age of 49 days. Parameters observed were feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion and performance index. The results showed a significant effect (P<0.05) on body weight gain, feed conversion and performance index, but no significant effect on feed consumption.
