Abstract

This report of the final project entitled “Translating E-book of Information Department Entitled “Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition” On Page 137 Until 161”. Translation is the communication of meaning from one language (the source) to another language (the target). Translation refers to written information.The purpose of translation is to convey the original meaning of a message. Doing translation is one of the way to overcome the incomprehension in different language, at the same time translation participates as a bridge of communication among language, country, and culture. In conducting teaching learning activities in State Polythecnic of Jember focusing in IT Department, the lecturers often use e-book as main module for support teaching learning activities. However, the writer got information that most of all the students of IT Department are having limitation to grab the detail information of the e-book in English version. Meanwhile, the lecturer explain it in lecturing class by Indonesia version. So, The writer decided to translate the e- book into Indonesia in order to help the student of IT Department to overcome the gap. In this final project, The writer did use the process of translation by Nida and Taber (1982). According to Nida and Taber (1982), translation is a complex process that must go through of three stages, those are: analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. The first phase is analysis the source text. Before doing the analyzing, the writer read the whole text first to understanding the message from the source text. Then, after understanding the message, the writer did three steps of analysis the source text there are, grammatical relationship, word and phrase.
