Abstract

Sexuality education for elementary school children is an important effort in preventing sexual violence; however, the limited availability of age-appropriate educational media makes the material difficult for students to understand. This study aimed to develop an animated video as an educational medium for the prevention of sexual violence among elementary school children. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) level 4 method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The media content was developed based on the International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education issued by UNESCO, emphasizing self-protection principles and children’s characteristics. The media was validated by a material expert and a media expert, followed by a limited trial involving 16 students from two elementary schools and an operational trial involving 79 students. Data were collected using a student response questionnaire with a Likert scale (1–5) consisting of 30 items covering media and material aspects. The limited trial showed an acceptance rate of 90.25%, while the operational trial showed 89.6%. All results were categorized as acceptable, indicating that the animated video is easy to understand, engaging, and appropriate for students in two different school environments. Therefore, the developed animated video is highly feasible to be used as an educational medium for preventing sexual violence among elementary school children.
