Abstract
Chili pepper is a horticultural commodity with high moisture content, making it highly susceptible to spoilage after harvest. This study aimed to design and evaluate an electrical control system for a cayenne pepper dryer and grinder based on the PLC Outseal Nano V4, integrating the drying and grinding processes into a single automated system. An experimental method was employed, consisting of system de- sign, implementation, and performance testing using the Black Box Testing method. The system consists of a PLC Outseal Nano V4, Arduino Nano ATmega328P, Type- K thermocouple sensor, MAX6675 module, heater, DC fan, stirring motor, grinding motor, LCD, keypad, and supporting components. The results showed that the heater, DC fan, stirring motor, grinding motor, buzzer, and pilot lamp achieved a 100% success rate, while the temperature sensing system achieved a 60% success rate due to sensor failure. Energy consumption testing indicated that power demand increased with the processing capacity of cayenne pepper. Overall, the PLC Outseal Nano V4-based electrical control system was successfully implemented and was able to automate the drying and grinding processes effectively.
