Abstract

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is an important strategy for preventing HIV transmission among high-risk populations, including female sex workers. Data in Puger District, Jember Regency indicate a decline in the number of female sex workers who continue using PrEP, reflecting low continuity of use. This study aimed to analyze adherence to PrEP consumption among female sex workers and the factors influencing it using the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design. The informants consisted of 11 female sex workers who had accessed PrEP, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis based on the components of the Health Belief Model. The findings show that most participants understood the risk of HIV infection and the benefits of PrEP use. However, adherence to PrEP consumption was still not optimal due to limited knowledge regarding proper usage, duration of use, and the importance of regular intake. This study recommends strengthening structured and continuous health education to improve understanding and adherence to PrEP use.
