Abstract

Subtitling an American Table Manner Video for Vocational High School In Jember is my final project. This project focused on subtitling video entitled Business Dinning Ettiquette. The result of this subtitle project was for the teacher and the students of Culinary art study program of vocational high school 3 in jember. The main reason why I chose this project based on my skill in listening and I chose American table manner because the teacher used handbook that applied American table manner as her reference in teaching table manner class. I interviewed the teacher and knew that she never used the video. So that it was make the teaching process were not maximal. I showed the video entitled Business Dinning Ettiquette in English Version, and based on the interview with the teacher of culinary art study program, the alternative way needed to make the students understand what the speaker meant because they did not have enough English skill in understanding the material on the video. I decided to make subtitle to help the students understand well and got the additional knowledge of table manner before they got table manner practicum class at the end of semester. The content of this video was about the table manner during the business function. I adopted the procedure of subtitling from the video caption corporation (2015) and adapted the theory of translation procedure from Newmark (1988) in Akhmed et all (2010) and Suryawinata and Hariyanto in Budianto et all (2010) to translate the original script (English). I hope this final project would give the students additional knowledge of table manner.
