Abstract

Subtitling an American Table Manner Video for Vocational High School In Jember is my final project. This project focused on subtitling video entitled Business Dinning Etiquette. The result of this subtitle project was for the teacher and the students of Culinary art study program of vocational high school 3 in jember. The main reason why I chose this project based on my skill in translation and I choose American table manner because it is mostly famous and apllied in Indonesia. I interview the teacher and knew that she never used the video. So that it is make the teaching process are not maximal. I proposed the video entitled Business Dinning Ettiquette in English Version, and based on the interview with the teacher of culinary art study program, she asked me to make the alternative way to make the students understand what the speaker meant. I knew the student’s English ability was not good enough and I decided to make this subtitle to help the students understand easily. The content of this video was about the table manner during the business function. I adopted the procedure of subtitling from the video caption corporation (2015) and adapted the theory of translation procedure from Newmark (1988) in Akhmed et all (2010) and Suryawinata and Hariyanto et all (2010) to translate the original script (Englih). I hope this final project would help the students got additional knowledge of table manner that could be used in the future when they get the business meeting and should have meal together with their partners. Also, the subtitle would help the students understand the content on the video easier.
