Abstract

Penstock pipe used in Pakis Village Panti district (Jember) is a made from a wooden board. The use penstock pipe from wooden board at water wheel power plant is less efficient because the output produced by turbine is not optimal. The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of penstock pipe which is used by local residents and penstock used of research. Based on testing, the result from the use of PVC penstock pipe with over shock generated power is higher than the penstock pipe used by local residents. The flow rate before entering penstock pipe with over the shock that is 13.01 m/s. Analysis of the penstock pipe A with diameter ratio 6:5 (0.1524 m :0.1300 m) and a projection distance 10 cm output flow amounted to 17.72 m / s with Re number of 3113637 which shows the value more than 4000, then the flow in the pipe called turbulent flow that in the pipe. The calculation of the average value are disadvantages with total head loss amounted to 0.0119 m. It is with total losses obtained, then the penstock pipe moving the turbine at about 68 RPM rotational velocity measurement is the largest produce actual power is 299 watts. In the actual calculation using penstock pipe wood used local residents have the actual power measurement result by 210 watts. Based on the measurement results penstock pipe A, B, C and wood. A Penstock pipe has compared the actual power most rapidly wooden pipe. This is because the amount of damages obtained in penstock pipe made wooden.
