Abstract

Language is essential to every aspect and communication in everyday lives. Language becomes a tool in communication which is language and communication has an inseverable relationship. Further, language as interpretation of what the communicator wants to deliver to the communicant. Talking about language there are so many languages around the world. Every country has their language to communicate and most of countries and organizations use English as a communication tool. Crystal (2003) stated that many organizations or fields used English as an official language. The fields such as: education, business, politics, and also entertainment. In education field, there are many sources that use English, such as books, journal, article, and also e-book. It is become a reason that we should have good ability in English. But in fact, there are still many people who have problem in understanding the information that published in English. In a small example of this case was happen in Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember. Based on the suggestion from the lecturer of Information Technology the writer decided to translate an e-book entitled Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition. The writer only focused on page 232 until 242. The results of this final project help the students and the lecturer of Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember in understanding the whole information of the ebook. To translate that e-book, the writer used the process of translation by Nida and Taber (1982). There were three steps in this translation process, those are, analysis the source text, transfer the source text into target text and restructuring. Besides, the writer also used four procedure of translation that adapted by Vinay ix and Darbelnet (1995) to help the finishing process of translation. Those are borrowing, calque, literal translation, and transposition. This e-book contains the information about the examples of synchronization process in Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Pthreads, and alternative approaches for multicore systems. As the result, the writer could increase her new vocabularies and knowledge about Information Technology. Besides, the writer could apply her translation, computer, writing, and reading skill to finish the project. The writer believed that the knowledge that she got from translating this e-book will be useful for the writer’s future. Further the user could understand this book easily and applied it in some subjects that relevant with the topic discussed. Moreover, by finishing this final project the writer has some suggestions. Those are for the students and lecturer of Information Technology Department, that is, the translation result suggested being reference when they are in lecturing and practicum class. For English Study program, that is the writer suggest to the lecturer to give more references about translation theory. And for the students of English Study program they can use this final project as the reference to write their report of final project.
