Abstract

English in globalization era is very important, because English to be one of an international language to communicate. Everyone must live in a global world to grow up. By mastering the English language, people can be easier to communicate so that insight in information and technology will be more open. In developing countries such as Indonesia, English also used in science and technology and it appears on most document use the English term. Many people use literature such as journal, book, electronic book, website and textbook to get more information in the learning process. But in fact, many people get problem to understand the book when the book is in English version. Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember has some books that used in learning process. The title of one book is “Introduction to Algorithms Second Edition”. The content of the book is the role of algorithms, structure of data, probabilistic analysis and randomized algorithms and linear programming. This book is the main literature on algorithm logic courses, so the material from the book should support the learning process to increase the learning quality of students and to get more complete theories and information about the subject of material in the class. But some students said that the content of the book are difficult to understand because it is written in English. This happened because of their lack of English skill. Based on the explanation above, the writer decided to translate the book entitled Introduction to Algorithms Second Edition on Chapter 2 Page 140-158 of Information Technology Department. Translation of the book is needed by students of Information Technology Department. Hopefully, this product can be useful for student of Information Technology Department. To finish this project the writer used the translation process by Suryawinata and Hariyanto (2016) that include analysis or understanding, transfer, restructuring, evaluation and revision. For the procedures to translate the source text, the writer applied some procedure of translation by Nida (1964) there were adding, subtracting, eliminating, literal, transposition, and borrowing. This book contain the information about the theory of how to used operating system in Information Technology. As the result, the writer could increase her new vocabularies and knowledge about Information Technology field. Then finally the writer concludes that conducting a translation project really beneficial for her and for the textbook user. The writer could apply her translation, writing, and reading skill to finish the project. She believed that the knowledge that she got from translating this book will be useful for the writer’s future. Further the user could understand this book easily and applied it in some subjects that relevant with the topic discussed. Moreover, by finishing this final project the writer have some suggestion for the students and lecturer of Information Technology Department, for the students of English Study Program, also for the English Study Program itself. For the students and lecturer of Information Technology Department, they can use the result of this project in their lecturing and practicum class. For the students of English Study Program, they can continue to translate the untranslated part to complete the Indonesian version of this book. And for the English Study Program itself, please provide many references such as books, journals, or any articles for the student so that they could learn and get the sufficient knowledge to support them in finishing their Final Project.
