Abstract

This study aimed to study the effect of drought stress and the dose of K fertilizer and its interactions on physiology and growth in sweet corn. This research was conducted in the greenhouse of the Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from September to November 2017. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 factors, namely drought stress and K fertilizer and used 3 replications. The first factor consisted of 2 levels, among others: A1 = normal and A2 = drought stress and the second factor consisted of four levels: K1 = 120 kg K2O ha-1, K2 = 150 kg K2O ha-1 and K3 = 180 kg K2O ha-1. Based on the analysis of variance, the reseults were significantly different, thus it continued by using the BNJ test at the 5% level. The parameters of experiment consisted of physiological factors, namely chlorophyll content aged 30 HST and 60 HST as well as proline levels. Growth factors consisted of root volume, wet weight and dry weight of the plant. The results showed that drought stress decreased physiological parameters and plant growth except proline levels. Application of K fertilizer increases the chlorophyll content of plants aged 30 HST and root volume. The interaction of drought stress with the application of K fertilizer does not improve the physiological and growth of sweet corn plants.
