Abstract

Illiteracy is a term used to describe the ability to read and write are not yet sufficient to meet the needs of everyday life. It is the same with illiteracy in a limited sense, which means the inability to read or write a simple sentence in any language.Illiteracy in Jember is the highest than in the surrounding area .. Based on data from the Directorate General of Non-Formal and Informal Education (DG PNFI) of the Ministry of Education and Culture in early 2010, as many as 142 districts in Indonesia received attention for Illiteracy eradication. Districts that have the most illiterate people are Jember 232,000 people.Geographic information system is one of the tools that can be used to help convey information about the distribution of illiterate adults in the region. Information relating to this dispersion requires accurate data. The data provided is data that tangible spatial data are visualized with thematic maps and non-spatial data relating to the distribution of the population are illiterate.
