Abstract

Biomass is an abundant and renewable energy source, one of which comes from bagasse waste. This study aims to determine the characteristics of biobriquettes made from bagasse waste using hibiscus leaf adhesive with SNI briquette standards (01-6235-2000). This study was an experimental conducted through several stages, namely raw material preparation, bagasse waste carbonization process using the drum kiln method, hibiscus leaf adhesive production, material mixing, briquette molding, and briquette quality testing. The study was made 3 variations of raw material and adhesive composition, namely 85%:15%, 80%:20%, and 75%:25%. The parameters tested include water content, ash content, combustion rate, and calorific value. The briquette composition that produces the best variation is ATDS 2 variation with a composition of 80% bagasse charcoal and 20% hibiscus leaf adhesive, which obtained a water content of 3.898%, ash content of 6.963%, a calorific value of 6584.94 cal/gr, and a combustion rate of 0.00979 gr/s. Thus, the use of bagasse waste as a raw material for biobriquettes has the potential to be an alternative renewable energy while supporting more environmentally friendly waste management.
