Abstract

Cavendish banana (Musa acuminata L.) has high economic value and has good market opportunities, so production needs to be increased. The obstacle that can be found in banana cultivation is the limited availability of seeds. One alternative to overcome this problem is by multiplying tissue culture on MS basic media (Murashige & Skoog) with the addition of IAA and BAP in several concentration variations. This study aimed to determine the effect of the addition of IAA and BAP concentrations on the growth of banana explants in vitro. The study was conducted at the Jember State Polytechnic Tissue Culture Laboratory, from July to November 2022. This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was the concentration of IAA which consists of 2 levels, namely 4 and 5 ppm. The second factor was the concentration of BAP which consisted of 2 levels, namely 8 and 10 ppm. The results showed that the addition of IAA and BAP to MS media was beneficial for increasing the height and number of shoots of Cavendish Banana explants. The addition of 5 ppm IAA significantly increased plant height at 3-7 week after planted (WAP) and the number of shoots at 7-12 WAP compared to the addition of 4 ppm IAA. Cavendish Banana explants grown on MS medium added with 5 ppm IAA + 8 ppm BAP produced the highest number of shoots at 12 WAP.
