Abstract

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is one of the horticultural plants that is widely cultivated by farmers to be utilized by the fruit, especially for consumption by the community both as vegetables and also sometimes used as herbal medicine that can be used to treat various diseases. To produce superior quality seeds, the genetic material used in the crossing process must come from elders who have superior traits as well, in this case the female elders as a source of pistils and male elders as a source of pollen have a very important role in the success of the pollination process, because if one of the two materials is not in optimal condition or past the receptive period of the flower it will affect the continuity of pollination of the plant. This research was carried out for 4 months starting in October 2020 until the end of January 2021 on land owned by Pt. Aditya Sentana Agro, Karangploso District, Malang Regency, East Java. The experimental design used was a factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) which consisted of 2 factors. The first factor was the influence of plant pollination time which consisted of pollination at 06.00-07.00 (T1), pollination at 08.00-09.00 (T2) and pollination at 10.00-00. 11.00 (T3), while the second factor is the proportion of male flowers to female flowers which consists of a ratio of male flowers to female flowers, namely 1:2 (P1), 1:1 (P2) and 2:1 (P3). The results showed that the pollination time treatment had a significant effect on the parameters of fruit length, fruit weight, fruit diameter, seed weight, weight of 1000 grains. In the treatment, the proportion of flowers had a significant effect on the parameters of fruit length, germination capacity, fruit weight and fruit diameter.
