Abstract

The development of automotive technology at this time many are making the latest innovations and more sophisticated, this results in many vehicles circulating in the community. The increasing number of vehicles in the community also increases the amount of exhaust emissions so that the exhaust gas problem must be addressed immediately, Exhaust gas emissions are the residual combustion of fuel in an internal combustion engine. Pollutants contained in exhaust gases from combustion include: Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC), and dust particles containing lead (Pb). This study aims to reduce the exhaust emissions of 4-stroke motorcycles to meet the standards of the Minister of Environment Regulation Number 5 of 2020 by installing a heat exchanger device using firstx fuel at 1500 RPM with a time of 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 15 minutes. The results of the research decrease in exhaust emissions as follows, exhaust gas CO, CO₂, O₂, HC before cooling is 0.83%Vol, 10.2%Vol, 8.95%Vol, 137 ppm. After cooling with a shell and tube tool using time variations of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes and fluid flow rates of 2 lpm, 4 lpm, and 6 lpm, the best reduction results were obtained using a time variation of 15 minutes and a fluid flow rate of 6 lpm with results of 0.43%Vol, 7.4%Vol, 12.01%Vol, and 72.5 ppm. The best decrease in this study using a time variation of 15 minutes and a fluid flow of 6 lpm obtained a decrease in CO gas by 48.1%, a decrease in CO₂ gas content by 27.4%, an increase in O₂ gas by 34.1%, a decrease in HC gas emissions by 47%.
