Abstract

Exclusive breast milk is a gift of mother’s milk to babies from birth to 6 month old without adding or replacing it with food (except drugs, vitamins and minerals). Breast milk is the best food for baby to support of growth and development optimally. According to the data from posyandu of the Karanglo village, it is known that 31 of 390 children under five years old were exclusively breastfed`. The result of this survey 20 mothers with 6-24 month old babies were found that only 5 mothers gave exclusive breast milk. The purpose of this study is to know what factors are related with exclusive breast-feeding practice. This type of research uses analytic study with a sectional design. The population in this study is the mother who has 6-24 month old baby in the Karanglo village. Collecting sampel is using purposive methods with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection uses a quantitative methode through quistionnaires and qualitative methods through indepth interview. Data in divariously and bivariously analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The result in this study is as many as 27 respondents exclusively (67,5%) and those who did not exclusively breast-feeding as many as 19 respondents in a (32,5%). Bivariate analysis showed that knowledge (p-value = 0,13), attitude (p-value = 0,033), family emotional support (p-value = 0,446), family instrumental support (p- value = 0,369) and family-provided meal support (0,57). Knowledge, attitudes and and family-provided meal support have a significant relations to exclusive breastfeeding, while family emotional support and family instrumental support instrumentally have no relations to exclusive breastfeeding.
