Abstract

The increase in maize seed production is strongly influenced by cultivation techniques, good cultivation techniques will increase maize production yields. Until now, farmers have not been able to apply good cultivation techniques so that corn production results are less than optimal. Cultivation techniques that need to be considered include the technology of using growth regulators. Growth regulators as retardants, will inhibit cell division and cell elongation so that they can control plant height without changing plant morphology, and nutrients that should be used for plant height growth can be diverted to flower and fruit formation so as to increase maize production. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration and application time of paclobutrazol on the growth and production of maize seed (Zea mays L). The group design used was factorial (3 x 2), the two treatment factors were (P) covering P1 = 600 ppm, P2 = 800 ppm and P3 = 1000 ppm, while the factor (W) included W1 = 37 DAP and W2 = 45 DAP each. The treatment combination was repeated 4 times with the number of plants in each experimental unit was 6 so that 150 plants were observed. The results of this study showed that the concentration of paclobutrazole had a very significant effect on the parameters of plant height with an average of 12.48 cm and the time of application of paclobutrazole had a significant effect on the weight of cobs seeds with an average of 124.9 g, and the interaction between the two had a significant effect on the weight of dry cobs. and production per hectare with an average of 128.04 g or 8.75 tons per hectare.
