Abstract

Learning English is something important in globalization era. People are required to master English and to have good English skills in order to get better life quality. English has been taught since elementary school for our society but mastering English is something difficult because we used English as foreign language. Based on the fact above many parents realize that formal education is not enough in developing their children’s English skills. Therefore many parents send their children to non-formal education. Non-formal educations such as English courses are increasingly in demand, especially for young learners. In Jember there are 23 well known English courses. One of them is Lembaga Kursus dan Pelatihan (LKP) Oxford Jember. LKP Oxford is one of the greatest English courses in Jember. It provides a lot of English training course programs for children until adult and for regular and private course programs. Lembaga Kursus dan Pelatihan (LKP) Oxford has a good quality in teaching English, with professional teachers, has good facilities that support teaching – learning activity and also has modern classrooms that make the students learn English comfortable. In my Internship Program in Lembaga Kursus dan Pelatihan Oxford, I have been placed in five divisions: Front Office Division, Marketing Division, Academic Division, Curriculum Division and Teaching Division. I had been placed in five divisions and got different duties for each division such as welcoming the customer, giving information for customer, handling telephone, spreading the brochure and making recapitulation data. Although I had been placed in five divisions but in this report I focused on teaching English activity. In teaching English activity I taught 5 classes that had different level. Those classes were English Zone 1, English Zone 2, Surprise 2, Beginner, and Basic Level. During my internship program in LKP Oxford I got new experiences and knowledge, especially the worth knowledge in teaching English. Besides, I also faced some problems in doing my duties on the first day of internship program. Therefore, I had to ask more and need help from other staffs. Besides, for the first time I taught my students I always find difficulties in making adjustment of their characteristics. Every students have their own characteristic and as a teacher sometimes it is difficult to understand the students’ characteristic. My students were young learners so they still had big pretension in playing. Therefore I had to make classes interesting to avoid my students be bored. Some students were difficult to handle when they were in class; they were busy with their own businesses. Then I had to take proper action to handle it by learning from other teachers and asking suggestion for other teachers. Finally, I could conduct and finish my internship program for about 512 hours during 3 months from February to April 2014. In my opinion, it is important to have good behaviour as the students and always ready to help the staffs. Additionally, as a teacher it is necessary to be patient when I was facing the problem or handling the students. Those experiences, are useful to apply, explore, and developed my knowledge in English especially in teaching English. I could apply my knowledge that I have gotten from English Study Program such as, speaking, writing, pronunciation, structure, and Manajemen Pengelolaan Kursus.. It is better to English Study Program to give the students more knowledge about English Course for more details, and more practice in teaching for real students to give knowledge how to face the students in real situation.
