Abstract
Inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption relative to World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations remains a public health nutrition problem in Indonesia, including among nutrition students who are expected to possess better nutritional knowledge than students from other study programs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional knowledge level and fruit and vegetable consumption patterns among students of the Clinical Nutrition Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Jember. This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted from February to March 2026. The sample consisted of 79 active students from the 2023–2025 cohorts, selected through purposive sampling from a population of 360 students. Data were collected using a nutritional knowledge questionnaire and a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents (96.20%) had a good level of nutritional knowledge, while only 36.71% consumed fruits and vegetables according to the recommendation (≥400 grams/day) and 63.29% remained in the inadequate category. The Chi-Square test showed no statistically significant relationship between nutritional knowledge level and fruit and vegetable consumption pattern (Pearson Chi-Square = 1.809; p = 0.179; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that good nutritional knowledge does not automatically translate into good consumption practices, so a more comprehensive approach is needed, one that also considers attitude formation, motivation, and the availability of healthy food on campus.
