Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of selenium-yeast as a feed supplement on the physical quality of quail eggs (Cortunix cortunix japonica). This study was conducted in the Integrated Agricultural Development Center of Jember State Polytechnic using 200 laying quails. The method used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The feed treatment in this study used selenium-yeast as a feed supplement with different doses, namely P0 = basal feed without selenium-yeast (control feed), P1 = basal feed + 0.05% selenium-yeast, P2 = basal feed + 0.10% selenium-yeast, and P3 = basal feed + 0.15% selenium-yeast. The parameters observed were egg weight, egg index, Haugh Unit (HU), and shell thickness. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), if the results had a significant effect (P <0.05) then further testing was carried out using the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The analysis showed that the addition of selenium-yeast to the feed had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the physical quality of quail eggs. The conclusion of this study is that the administration of selenium-yeast as a feed supplement at a level of 0.05% - 0.15% in the feed was not able to improve the physical quality of eggs compared to the control treatment..
