Abstract

Wasting is a health disorder caused by an imbalance or deficiency of nutrients needed for growth, development, and life. Factors causing wasting in toddlers such as parenting patterns and nutritional intake, especially exclusive breastfeeding given since baby. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and exclusive breastfeeding history with the z-score of wasting toddlers. This research design used an observational analytic survey with a cross sectional approach. The population in the study were mothers who had wasting toddlers in Glagahwero Village, Kalisat Subdistrict. Subjects in this study were 44 mothers with simple random sampling technique. The study was conducted for 3 months in January - March 2024. This research instrument used a questionnaire of parenting patterns and exclusive breastfeeding history. Statistical analysis using SPSS with the Spearman-rho test. The results showed there was a relationship between parenting patterns and z-score of wasting toddlers, positive correlation direction, and had a weak relationship strength (p=0.032, r=0.323) and there was no relationship between exclusive breastfeeding history with z-score of wasting toddlers (p=0.069).
