Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of giving ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Var.) through drinking water on the performance of KUB chickens. This research was conducted in Bagorejo Village, Gumukmas District, Jember Regency using 100 KUB chickens aged 29 days. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications (5 chickens in each replication). Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). If the results were significantly different (P<0.05), then continued with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The treatments were, P0 (without ginger extract), P1 (ginger extract 0.5% / 5 ml ginger extrac + 1 liter of water), P2 (ginger extract 1% / 10 ml ginger extrac + 1 liter of water), and P3 (ginger extract 1.5% / 15 ml ginger extrac + 1 liter of water). Parameters measured were body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The results of the analysis of variance showed that the giving of red ginger extract with different concentrations had no significant effect (P>0,05) on body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that giving red ginger extract 0.5% to a level of 1.5% in drinking water has not been able to increase body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion.
