Abstract

The climate change in Indonesia causes shorter rainy season; so that, water supply is reduced. One of the effects due to climate change is the decline of agricultural production. One of the agricultural products which gets the impact is peanut. An alternative solution is to make irrigation engineering with a combination of biological fertilizer. One of the biological fertilizers is Rhizobium spp. Rhizobium spp is one of the symbiotic bacteria in the soil. Rhizobium spp can fix free nitrogen in the air and can be symbiotic with legume plant. Nitrogen is very important for plants in biochemical process, growth, and obtaining optimal production. This experiment was aimed to characterize Rhizobium spp in peanut root nodules and grow it on YEMA + Congo-Red medium. The obtained inoculum could be used as biological fertilizer. The result of the Rhizobium spp isolation experiment showed a round colony shape, pink colony color, and bacterial cell size of 1-2 μm. Rhizobium spp absorbed little Congo-Red color, but other bacteria absorbed Congo-red color more; so that, the colony will have red color. The application of Rhizobium spp inoculum with treatments of watering once in 2 days (P1), 4 days (P2), 6 days (P3) and 8 days (P4). The experiment results revealed that applying Rhizobium spp on peanut plant with drought stress had an effect on the growth and production of peanut. Rhizobium spp affected to increase plant height, wet pod weight, dry pod weight, dry seed weight, root nodule weight. Rhizobium spp could fix free nitrogen in the air under drought stress condition. Rhizobium could provide nutrients for plant in the form of NO 3-. The plant used NO 3 - for photosynthesis and producing products in the form of proteins. The best treatment was watering once in 2 days and adding Rhizobium spp with a concentration of 20 ml / l. Keywords: Rhizobium spp, Drought Stress, and Fixation Nitrogen
