Abstract

Metal objects are made to last for long periods of time, but that doesn't always happen after years of use. Both from automotive components and everyday furniture. If that has happened, then there are two things that can be done, namely buying new or restoring. Restore itself can use a powder coating, because powder coating has an environmentally suave nature and is quite good in preventing corrosion and reducing the weight of the metal. This research was conducted to analyze the effect of oven temperature variations the thickness of powder coating paint on ASTM A36 steel. Also analyzed the effect of pretreatment iron phosphating on the adhesion of the powder coating paint coating on ASTM A36 steel. Where the oven temperature variations used are 1600C, 1700C, 1800C, 1900C and 2000C with surface preparation using pretreatment iron phosphating. By using two paint products namely Jotun Products and Oxyplast Products. And from this procedure the results of testing the thickness of the paint layer, the Jotun products and oxyplast products found that the appropriate value in the range of the standard test thickness of the powder coating paint thickness is around 60 μm to 80 μm. In the paint coating adhesion test there are differences in both the jotun and oxyplast products, where the Jotun product results in high adhesion is obtained at an oven temperature of 1900C with a value of 3.066 MPa, whereas in oxyplast products at an oven temperature of 2000C with a value of 4.03 MPa. For the lowest adhesive strength test values obtained in each product has a difference where the Jotun product at 1600C oven temperature with a value of 1.404 MPa, while oxyplast product at 1800C oven temperature with a value of 1.056 MPa.
