Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the interaction between heat stress and the administration of vitamin C on energy digestibility of Gaok chicken. The method used in this research is the experimental method. The material used is 16 male gaok chickens. This study used a factorial randomized block design (RBDF) with a 2x2 pattern with 4 replications. The first factor is heat stress (S0 = without heat stress, S1 = given heat stress) and the second factor is Vitamin C (V0 = no vitamin C, V1 = given vitamin C). Parameters observed were feed consumption, apparent metabolic energy, and pure metabolic energy. The data from the quantitative test were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (Anova) and if there were differences, they were further tested using the Least Significant Difference (BNT) test at 5% level. The results showed that the effect of heat stress treatment on gaok chicken had a significant effect (P <0.05) on increasing drinking water consumption, and reducing digestibility of metabolic energy from the consumed ration. This is because gaok chickens experience heat stress due to high environmental temperatures so that the chickens will consume more drinking water which aims to maintain body fluids so that the chickens do not become dehydrated and the chickens will also reduce feed consumption in order to reduce the heat load generated during the process. digestion of feed so that it affects the energy digestibility of the given ration.
