Abstract

Translating An E-Book Entitled “Object-Oriented Programming Using Java” By Simon Kendal On Chapter 7, 8, and 9 For Informatic Management Study Program, Hana Wisnu Fernanda, F31171229, 2020, 28 Pages, English Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Titik Ismailia, S.Pd, M.Pd. (Supervisor). Information technology is widely used by a large number of people to ease their activities, including those dealing with education. The role of information technology in education can be seen from the utilization of e-books as digital- based learning media. Many e-books applied in the learning process are presented in English language since English is a global lingua franca. However, currently English in Indonesia is a foreign language. Eventually, students still have difficulty in understanding the instructions. One of the examples of this problem is the use of an English e-book entitled “Object Oriented Programming Using Java” for the students of Informatic Management study program in Information Technology Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember. The lecturer of Information technology Department said that it is essential for the writer to translate the e-book in order to help the students of Informatics Management study program in comprehending the materials. Based on the preliminary study, the writer decided to translate the e-book entitled “Object Oriented Programming Using Java” on chapter 7, 8, and 9 for the students Informatic Management study program. The text discussed about many concepts that related to object oriented programming using java. To finish this final project, the writer translated the text using the process by Newmark (1988). The process includes was reading the source text, translating the source text that has been read, and revising the translation translation result. The writer used the procedure by Vinay and Darbelnet (1995). The procedure were direct translation and oblique translation, but most of the sentences were translated using direct translation. Direct translation includes three procedures, they were borrowing and literal translation. After finishing the product, translation result got revising from the proofreader, supervisor, and students of Informatic Management study program. The writer revise the result of translation and make sure that it has been clear enough. After all the process has been finished, the result of translation will available in PDF format and it will shared to Informatic Management study program as a supporting resource of their learning process.
