(Supervisor) English language takes an important part as a global means of communication. It is called as the global language because most people use English to communicate. Based on The Internet World Stats (2019), English is included in the top 10 of the languages in the world. As the top language in the world, English is used in many fields such as business and education. In business field, English is very necessary, for example in company that needs to make relations with foreign companies. In education field, many educational sources and journals are written in English. But, in fact, there is a problem in understanding articles published in English. Some students feel difficult when they want to transfer English into their language. That problem is also found in Politeknik Negeri Jember especially at IT Department. Based on the result of an interview with one of the lecturers of IT department, he used an English e-book entitled “Operating System Concepts ninth edition” as the basic material to support the teaching and learning process. However, there is some students of IT Department did not understand the content of the e-book because it is in English. Knowing that situation, translating this e-book is needed to solve the students’ problem. Thus, the writer decided to translate this English e-book entitled “Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition” into Bahasa Indonesia version. To finish this project the writer used the translation process by Nida and Taber (1982), such as analysis, transferring, and restructuring. In analysis, the writer analyzed the source language text by reading the text intensively to get the main idea. In transferring, the writer translated the text, but it was still in the writer’s memory. In this phase, the writer used techniques by Molina and Albir (2002), such as borrowing, literal translation, and calque. In restructuring, the writer wrote the transferred source text into the target text from the writer’s memory into a draft and asked proof-readers to proofread and review the translation result. Finally, the writer finished translating the e-book entitled Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition (Chapter 9, page 397-429) from English into Bahasa Indonesia. The translation result was available in printed form and pdf. files. Hopefully, the result of the translating product can be useful and can give many benefits for users, especially the students and lecturer of IT Department.
