Abstract

These days people speak English to communicate with other people. As a means of global communication, English should be mastered actively both oral and written. In the oral form, the communicator delivers the information directly. Another way to deliver the information is in written form. But in fact, there is a problem in understanding the written form. Some people cannot catch the information, so they misunderstand the information that written in English. As the result, they can not access some sources well. From the problem, translation is needed to help the reader to understand the information. In education field commonly, academician uses English source literature that comes from books, journals, websites, and others. One of educational institution in Jember that is Politeknik Negeri Jember uses English for its literature in the Technology Information Department. Due to the fact today, technology has relation with English, so it cannot be separated from English because English is important to understand hardware and software systems. Information technology has an e-book used in the learning process. One of the electronic books is “Software engineering practitioners approach the seventh edition”. The book was used in the 4th semester in the Informatics Engineering Study Program. In the preliminary study, students in the 4th semester got difficulties in understanding the content of the book. So, in a way to help students understand, the writer decided to do the final project entitled “Translating An E�Book Entitled Software Engineering A Practitioner's Approach Seventh Edition On Chapter 4&5”. In translating this e-book, the writer adapted the translation process from Alwazna. They were familiarity with the backgroud of the text, analysis the ix source text, transfer process, produce the first draft of the target language, produce the second draft of the target language, and testing the result. In the familiarity step, the writer read the previous chapter of the book and read the information related to the book through website and article from the internet. In the analysis step, the writer analyzed the gramatical used, marked the ambiguous word, and also IT terms in the book. In the transfer process, the writer rendered the meaning of the source language into target language by using online Cambridge dictionary and Microsoft translator on the internet. In the producing the first draft of the taget text, the writer translated the source language into target language by considering the analysis and and transfer process and made the first result of the product. In producing the second draft, the writer read the whole result and considered the naturalness of the target text. In the testing result, the writer asked students from Informatics Engineering Study Program and proofreader to check the result of the translation to find the error of the result. Furthermore, the writer has suggestions for the lecturer and students of the IT Department, for students of English Study Program and for Language, Communication, and Tourism Department. For the lecturer and students of the IT Department, the writer suggested to use the translation product in the teaching and learning process. For students of English Study Program, the writer suggested to use this final project report as reference when they want to conduct translation in the final project. For Language, Communication, and Tourism Department, the writer suggested to provide more references related to the translation theories.
