Abstract

This is the report of the final project entitled “Translating Probolinggo Tourism Booklet Entitled “Destinasi Wisata Kota Probolinggo: Enjoy Your Trip 2019”. The aim of this final project was to inform the foreign tourists about the contents of the tourism booklet. Based on the preliminary study that the writer did, The Youth, Sport, and Tourism Department of Probolinggo City needs the English version of the tourism booklet published in 2019. In this case, the writer translated the tourism booklet from bahasa Indonesia into English as her final project. To finish this final project, the writer used the translation process proposed by Budianto and Fardhani (2010). The process of translated by Budianto and Fardhani (2010) consist of four phases such as understanding, analysis, restructuring, and rereading. In understanding process, she understanding the topic of the tourism booklet by scanning. In analysis process, the writer analyzed the source texts of the tourism booklet. The writer found many errors such as sentence structures, mistypes, mismatches, punctuations, and capitalization. Then, the writer revised them. In addition, the writer also took a note and wrote the difficult words and phrases that found in the tourism booklet. Then, she searched to dictionaries. In restructuring process, the writer started to arrange the translation drafts. She arranged the translation drafts with an appropriate grammar of the target language. Last step in rereading, the writer reread the translation drafts and made sure the readers understood them. Then, the writer asked a proofreader and a staff of The Youth, Sport, and Tourism Department of Probolinggo City to proofread all the translation results. In addition, she also added texts, edited layout, and arranged design of the tourism booklet. The writer used Adobe Photoshop Application. In making the product of translation, the writer found many difficulties in finding the meaning in bahasa Indonesia or English, arranging the sentences using right grammar, and finding the meaning of socio-cultural aspects in the tourism booklet. Fortunately, the writer could find the meanings in dictionaries. The writer used Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia Online Dictionary, Merriam Webster Online Dictionary, and Oxford Online Dictionary. The writer also got information from several online articles in e-journal to find several meanings that could not find in dictionaries. By conducting this final project, she could get much knowledge of vocabularies (in bahasa Indonesia and English), gain more information about tourism field, and grammatical structure. Finally, she exported the final product into two versions, printed and pdf versions. The printed version was given to English Study Program and PDF version was given to The Youth, Sport, and Tourism Department of Probolinggo City.
