Abstract

One of effort to fulfill National demand of cucumber independently is by modification of plant cultivate techniques. This research aims to determine the effect of topping and branch maintenance on the Japanese cucumber seeds production. The research was conducted on October 2020 until February 2021 on the seed production research land of PT. Benih Citra Asia Jember. This research used Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor was tip pruning with the levels of without topping (T0) and topping on the 20th internodes. The second factor were branch maintenance with the levels of maintenance all branches (C0), maintenance 1 of branch (C2) and maintenance of 2 branches. The data will be analyzed using ANOVA and continued with DMRT level of 5%. The result showed that the treatment of topping on the main stem has significant effect on the parameters of the weight of pithy seeds 2.04 gram, weight of 1000 seeds 15.92 gram and the germination rates 47.42 %. The treatment of branch maintenance has significant effect on the parameters of the number of fruit formed 2.25 fruits, the number of pithy seed 174.88 seeds, the weight of pithy seed 2.19 gram and seed production per hectare 204.63 Kg/Ha. The interaction between topping and branch maintenance has non-significant effect for all parameters. Keywords: Japanese cucumber, topping and branch maintenance
