Abstract
Cleft lip and palate may affect speech production and articulation in children, requiring continuous and multidisciplinary care, including speech therapy. Based on observations and discussions with healthcare professionals at RSPAU dr. S. Hardjolukito, the availability of visual media to support speech production exercises was still limited. Therefore, this internship project aimed to develop articulation flash cards as a supporting medium for speech therapy services for children with cleft lip and palate. The media development process was carried out through the stages of defining needs, designing, developing, validating, implementing, and evaluating the media. The flash cards were designed using Canva and consisted of familiar illustrations, target words, and phoneme codes indicating the initial, medial, and final positions of sounds in words. Validation was conducted on both material and media aspects. The material validation result reached 95%, while media validation reached 100%; both were categorized as highly valid. A limited trial through direct observation and discussions with the speech therapist indicated that the flash cards could be used as visual stimuli for speech production exercises, applied repeatedly, and adjusted to each patient's therapy targets and needs. The developed media was subsequently handed over to the speech therapist and used in several therapy sessions. In conclusion, articulation flash cards are considered a highly valid and applicable supporting medium for speech therapy services for children with cleft lip and palate at RSPAU dr. S. Hardjolukito. Further development may include additional illustrations, vocabulary, and target sounds according to patients' needs.
