Abstract

Sand mining activities in Sumberwuluh Village have the potential to impact health and the environment. This study aims to identify and explore community perceptions regarding the health and environmental impacts of sand mining activities in Sumberwuluh Village. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach was employed, utilizing accidental sampling to select 15 respondents. The results indicate that residents experience health issues such as coughing, eye irritation, and shortness of breath. Environmental concerns frequently cited include road damage, heavy mining vehicle traffic, and alterations to river conditions. Residents perceive dust as the most bothersome impact; however, mining activities are still considered beneficial as they provide employment opportunities and boost community income. The study concludes that sand mining activities impact both public health and the environment. Although residents are aware of these impacts, the majority accept the mining activities because they serve as a source of livelihood. Consequently, stricter policies regarding the regulation of sand transport vehicles are recommended to mitigate these impacts. Furthermore, there is a need for enhanced supervision of mining operations, dust control measures, the use of personal protective equipment, and periodic monitoring of public health. Keywords: Community Perception, Health, Environment, Sand Mining.
