Abstract
Mountain hiking is a form of special-interest tourism that involves potential safety risks, making Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) an essential aspect of hiking activities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of OSH by the trail management and hikers' experiences regarding OSH practices at Mount Buthak via Panderman, Malang Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving trail managers and hikers. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, while data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that the management has implemented OSH through registration procedures, safety briefings, equipment inspections, safety signs, ranger patrols, and evacuation services. Hikers' experiences influence their safety knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors during hiking activities. Hikers with better safety knowledge and who demonstrate appropriate safety attitudes and behaviors during hiking activities are generally better prepared to identify risks and comply with safety procedures. However, the implementation of OSH has not been fully optimized, particularly in accident reporting, as some hikers do not report minor incidents to the management. Therefore, strengthening accident reporting systems and improving safety education for hikers are recommended. Keywords: hikers' experience, occupational safety and health (OSH), mountain hiking, mount buthak.
