Abstract

Translating a Book Entitled “Batuan Berkisah” Page 22-42 for Yayasan Studi Arsip Sudut Kalisat, Nauri Vadelia Syamsa, F31222536, 2026, 68 Pages, English Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Meiga Rahmanita, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor). This final project aimed to translate a historical-cultural book entitled Batuan Berkisah from Indonesian into English. The translated section covered pages 22 to 42 of the book, consisting of approximately 2,952 words. The purpose of this translation project was to assist Yayasan Studi Arsip Kalisat in introducing the history, culture, and local heritage of Kalisat and Jember to a wider international audience. The translation process followed the process by Nida and Taber (1982), which consists of four stages: analysis, transfer, restructuring, and evaluation and revision. To preserve both meaning and cultural identity, the writer combined Newmark’s Semantic Translation and Venuti’s Foreignization strategies. These strategies were supported by several translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002), including borrowing, description, transposition, modulation, literal translation, and generalization. The combination of these approaches enabled the writer to maintain the historical and cultural values of the source text while ensuring that the translation remained understandable for English readers. The translation was evaluated using Grammarly and further revised through consultation with a professional proofreader. During the translation process, the writer identified difficult words, cultural expressions, regional language elements, folklore-style narratives, and historical references found in the source text. The writer searched for appropriate equivalents by consulting online dictionaries, DeepL Translator, KBBI, and cultural information obtained from Yayasan Studi Arsip Kalisat.
