Abstract

The demand for environmentally friendly alternative energy continues to increase as the availability of fossil fuels declines. One potential solution is the utilization of biomass waste, such as sengon (Falcataria moluccana) sawdust and banana peel flour, for the production of biobriquettes. This study aimed to determine the effect of the composition of sengon sawdust charcoal and banana peel flour adhesive, as well as the compaction level, on the characteristics of biobriquettes and their compliance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 01-6235-2000). The composition ratios used were 70:30, 65:35, and 60:40, with compaction levels of 40%, 45%, and 50%. The parameters evaluated included moisture content, ash content, calorific value, density, and burning rate. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with Minitab software. The results showed that both composition and compaction significantly affected the characteristics of the biobriquettes. The best treatment was obtained at a composition ratio of 70:30 with 40% compaction, producing a moisture content of 4.096%, an ash content of 4.264%, and a calorific value of 5,996 cal/g. The resulting biobriquettes met the quality requirements of SNI 01-6235-2000, indicating their potential as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel.
