Abstract

Sudut Kalisat Community is a cultural community in Jember that preserves local history and culture through various activities and events. International tourists often visit SKC and interact with local residents. However, communication is sometimes difficult because only a few community members can speak English, and there is no practical learning medium to help tourists understand basic Indonesian. Therefore, this final project aimed to develop a bilingual BIPA pocketbook to support communication between community members and international tourists. The pocketbook was developed using the 4D model, focusing on four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and audiovisual materials. Based on the findings, the writer designed a bilingual pocketbook containing basic vocabulary, practical expressions, and short dialogues related to daily communication and tourism activities at SKC. The product was then validated by content and design experts and revised based on their suggestions. The final product is an A6-sized bilingual BIPA pocketbook consisting of three sections: welcome section, contents, and closing. The pocketbook contains ten chapters covering basic Indonesian expressions, daily conversations, cultural etiquette, and information about SKC. The product is expected to help international tourists communicate more easily with local people, understand basic Indonesian expressions, and gain a better understanding of SKC culture and activities. In addition, a pocket book can help SKC members interact with international tourists and reduce communication barriers during tourism activities.
