Abstract

Owing to the continuous decline in national soybean production despite rising public demand, observing vegetation characters to identify plant genotypes has become crucial. This study, conducted between October and January 2025 at the Jember State Polytechnic Innovation Garden, employed a descriptive method to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative traits of 5 Jember Hope (GHJ) strains against 2 comparative soybean (Glycine max) varieties. The assessment covered qualitative features such as the color of the hypocotyl, flowers, pod pubescences (feathers), seeds, and hilums, alongside leaf and seed shapes. It also measured quantitative traits including plant height, number of branches, flowering age, number of pods, harvest age, and the weight of 100 seeds. The results revealed distinct variations between the 5 strains and the 2 comparative varieties across both qualitative and quantitative parameters, establishing unique morphological identities for each evaluated genotype.
