Abstract

The abundance of organic waste becomes an opportunity that can be utilized in agriculture. One of the utilization efforts is to make it as a medium for growing fungus. Aspergillus niger is a saprobic fungus that lives in organic waste. A. niger acts as a biological fertilizer agent by increasing plant growth and producing Aspergillin that can inhibit plant-disturbing pathogens. The purpose of this study was to determine some organic waste that can be used as a medium to support the growth of A. niger. The research was conducted at the Plant Protection Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Production, Jember State Polytechnic from November 2020 to March 2021. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisted of 4 treatments with 10 replications. The medium treatment were coffee husk, sawdust, tea pulp, and straw powder The research data will be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The analyzed of morphological data using descriptive-qualitatively, The results of qualitative data stated that each medium had appropriate morphological characteristics for A. niger (black colony, vesicle globose, conidiophores uncolored, hypae branched septate, and conidia globose.). While the spore density was analyzed statistically using ANOVA (Analysis of variance). Then, it was tested using Tukey’s test at 5% level. Coffe husk medium most supports the growth of A. niger.
