Abstract

Purpose of this researh was to determine the effect of soaking KNO3 and the usedof several varieties to dormancy breaking of paddy seed (Oryza sativa L.). Completely Randomised Design (CRD) 4X4 factorial that consist of 16 treatment combinations as the method of this research. First factor is long immersion (L) which consists of 4 levels KNO3 soaking for 24 hours (L1),KNO3 soaking for 36 hours (L2),KNO3 soaking for 48 hours (L3) and KNO3 soaking for 60 hours (L4). Second factor isvarieties used (P) consist of Ciherang (V1), Mekongga (V2), Bondojudo (V3), and Towuti varieties (V4). Each treatment was repeated two times in order to obtain 32 units of treatment. Observed parameters, consist of maximum growth potential (%), intensity of dormancy (%), germination of seeds (%), simultaneity sprouted seeds (%) and speed of seed growth (%). Variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to analysis data, continue to test by used Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) 5%.Results of variance analysis showed that the long immersion factor (L) was gave a highly significant effect to germination parameters, and it was gave significant effect to simultaneity growth. However,it wasnot significant effect to potential maximum growth, speed of seed growth, andintensity of dormancy parameters. Then, the used of several varieties factors (V) was gave highly significant effect to maximum growth potential observation, the speed of growth and intensity of dormancy parameters. However, it was not significant effect on germination of seed and simultaneity grow parameters .
