Abstract

Language is the important aspect for communication. There are some languages that spoken by millions of people, while others are just a few people who can be used as their communication tool. Essentially, it is refers to languages that are learned and spoken internationally, in this case English. To face lots of challenges in the future, English is needed in various institutions. Especially in educational institution that will become a bridge in terms of preparing future generation. There are many resources or books in English version that support the theories in educational system that is useful to upgrade the latest science in accordance with the more advanced era, especially in college level. One of them is in Politeknik Negeri Jember in the Information Technology Department. Based on preliminary study that the writer did to the lecturer in Information Technology Department, Mr. Ery Setiawan, they had international ebooks to support their learning activities. One of them was entitled Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition by Abraham Silberschatz. This e-book was become main module in learning process of all study programs in Information Technology Department. But, they found the difficulties when transferring knowledge to the students, vice versa, the students difficult to understand the books that use English. Knowing that situation, translating this e-book was needed to solve their problem. This project was finished by the teamwork consist of six persons, and the writer only focus on page 191 until 200. In finishing this project the writer used the translation process by Nida and Taber (1962), those were analysis of source text, transferring the analyzed text into target language, and restructuring the result of translation in order to make it ix readable. In transferring phase, the writer applied procedures of translation from Newmark (1988), those were transposition, modulation and also transference procedure. From translating activity, the writer knew the content of this e-book, in which explains about summary of theories of thread, questions related to the process of thread, and also the explanation project program about Sudoku solution validator using theory of thread. Besides used the processes and procedures from the expert, the writer was also used CAT Tool (Computer-Assisted Translation) in which SDL Trados Studio 2017 in order to help her effectiveness to do translation and make translation process easier. One of the important features in this CAT Tool is Translation Memory, a core of SDL Trados. It is a database that stores sentences, paragraphs or segments of text that have been translated before. So it can make translators consistent when translating the text. In addition, SDL Trados Studio 2017 also provided feature that made the format of text in target language same as source language text. So the writer didn’t need to edit the format of source language text again to make it resemble with the source language text. Moreover, after completed this project the writer realized that her vocabularies and knowledge about Information Technology field was increased. Her skill in writing, reading, and translating text also improved. The writer suggested to the lecturer and students in IT Department to use the result of this final project in their learning activities. For the students of English Study Program, the writer suggested to take translation project as their final project, because it’s very useful for them who want to improve their English skill. Besides that, the writer also suggested to the lecturer in English Study Program who responsible in translation field to introduce the students about the use of software in translation field. Telling them about the prospect of translation field is also necessary. It could make them interested if they know how beneficial translation project for their future
