Abstract

English language is known as the global language and takes an important role as an effective communication tool between Nation. English language opens international doors start from education, business, entertainment, politic and diplomacy. For example, in business field English is the dominant business language and it become a necessity for people to speak English if the want to enter a global workforce or to cooperate with allies country. Unfortunately, Indonesia is categorized as a low English ability country. In Indonesia, there are many sources such as book, journal, and etc published in English version, but not all of the reader understand about the content of the source. In a small context, it also happened in Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember.After doing a preliminary study the writer knew that there is an Information System Cource. Information System Course teached in every study program in Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember which are Informatics Engineering, Informatics Management, and Computer Engineering. Information System Course use an English e-book as the main module in the learning process. Based on the preliminary that the writer did through the interview with Mr. Ery Setyawan at the Information Technology Department, he said that this English E-book is important since it is a basic material to learn, but there is a problem in understanding this English E-book especially for the student. The problem is this E-book is in English version. The lecturer said that to help the student understand about the material, this E-book must be translated into Bahasa Indonesia.In finishing this final project the writer used the translation process by Banjar (2009) which include of three phases. The first phase is analysis of the source text, in the first phase the writer read the whole text than underlining the dufficult word to get the general idea of the source text. During the second phase transferring the analysed text into the target language, the writer also applied some procedure by Nida (1964) which called technical device in deep structure to make the result understandable. The writer applied three procedure, there were transposition, literal and borrowing. The last phase, revising the target text , the target text were reviewed by the supervisor and the lecturer of Information Technology Department it aim to know whether the target text is understanable or not.
